ABOUT THE TEACHER

PROFESSIONAL BIO

Leahwen Torres is a dedicated Music Educator and a versatile string performer from Las Vegas, Nevada, proficient in both the violin and viola. She began her musical journey at the age of 12, initially taking up the violin and later developing a deep love for the viola.

Under the guidance of her esteemed instructor, Sharon Street-Caldwell, Leahwen participated in various prestigious orchestras, such as the CCSD Honor Orchestra, Nevada All-State Orchestra, and the Nevada School of the Arts Chamber Orchestra. Her talent and versatility were evident in these ensembles as she excelled on both the violin and the viola.

During her high school years, Leahwen's musical achievements on both instruments were remarkable. As a member of the Ed W Clark High School Advanced Orchestra, she contributed to the ensemble's success, winning the ASTA Grand Championship in 2015 and the Festival Disney Gold award in 2016. Her prowess on both the violin and the viola also led to her selection to perform at the Midwest Clinic in 2016.

In 2018, Leahwen continued her music education in California at Biola University, studying Music Education under the mentorship of Jason Bonham for viola and Ken Aiso for violin. She extended her passion for both instruments by coaching the violin and viola sections at East Whittier Middle School and teaching beginner violin, piano, and guitar at Worship Arts Academy.

Leahwen's dedication to both the violin and the viola was further enriched through her participation in summer intensive music programs, including the Texas String Music Festival, Idyllwild Music Festival, Varna International Music Festival, and the Redfish Music Festival. Her experiences in these programs expanded her musical horizons and collaboration with fellow musicians.

Notably, Leahwen had the opportunity to perform alongside renowned artists such as Matt Redman, Frankie Moreno, and Lindsey Stirling, showcasing her ability to seamlessly transition between the violin and the viola.

Leahwen Torres's deep connection with music goes beyond individual instruments, describing it as a means of connecting with oneself, the world, and the people around us.
