ABOUT THE TEACHER

PROFESSIONAL BIO

Alex Mayer is an acclaimed classical and jazz instrumentalist, celebrated for his remarkable talent and versatility. He earned his degree in Music and Business/Economics from Wheaton College in 2021, supported by a prestigious music and global leadership scholarship. Alex honed his craft under the tutelage of Grammy-nominated instructors from the world’s foremost conservatories, including The Juilliard School, Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy, Peabody Conservatory, and Harvard University.

At Wheaton College, Alex studied classical piano with Dr. Daniel Horn, a distinguished Juilliard alumnus. He also received jazz piano instruction from the Grammy-nominated pianist Brad Williams. During his final years at Wheaton, Alex gained invaluable project training under Chuck Thomas, a respected member of the Grammy Awards board.

Mr. Mayer's achievements in competitions are noteworthy; he was a two-time finalist in the Chopin Youth Piano Competition. His prowess extends to composition as well, with his piece “Freiheit” winning 1st Place out of 400 entries in the 2017 Gershanov Family Arts & Writing Contest at the Illinois Holocaust Museum. He has composed for short films and, in 2018, collaborated with a composer from Heitor Pereira’s studio.

Outside the realm of music, Alex enjoys hiking, socializing with friends, engaging in community activities, exploring new travel destinations, and discovering culinary delights. In October 2016, his dedication to community service earned him two U.S. Congressional Awards, and he was recognized among the top 2.3% of applicants for the Edman Leadership Award for Global Service.
