ABOUT THE TEACHER

PROFESSIONAL BIO

Alisa Khodos began her remarkable violin career as an adolescent as she started playing the violin at the age of eight. At age ten she moved to Russia where she studied at the Russian School of Music under Nelli Dmitrieva. By the age of twelve, she was already a featured soloist, playing at European venues like La Madeline in Paris, the Pantheon in Rome, and Saint Peter's Cathedral in Vienna. After returning to California she performed in her high school and junior college orchestras, the Ill-Tempered Chamber Group, and was an instructor for the Irvine Classical Players Ensemble. Alisa finished her degree at UCLA where she was a part of three different ensembles and the UCLA Philharmonia.

After finishing her degree, Ms. Alisa is eager to return to teaching students to help build a future generation of performers. She hopes to instill the spark she felt as an adolescent into her lessons. Ms. Alisa believes that music is not just a subject to be taught; it is an experience to be shared and cherished. Her teaching philosophy is centered around encouragement and positive reinforcement. She tailors each lesson for her students as she understands that each student has their unique style, musical taste, and pace of learning. She spends time understanding her students: their strengths, weaknesses, and aspirations. Her ultimate goal is that students leave her lessons not just skilled musicians, but confident individuals who have experienced the joy and fulfillment that comes from making music.
